Abstract
The aim of this paper is to show a connection between the thought of Ortega and that of María Zambrano, placing both in a common context of criticism of Modernity. Thus, the proposal is based on an analysis of scientific-mathematical rationality as an excluding field of some ambits of reality. Both authors are aware of that, although their approaches are different and attend to different issues. It is intended to show that Ortega’s understanding of the concept as an instrument of partial capture of reality is linked to the way in which Zambrano understands the existence, function and generation of the gods. The concept and the gods are shown as ways of masking reality for its human interpretation. Likewise, the work aims to show how, in the face of Western rationalism, there are forms of knowledge that transcend mere conceptual thinking, such as art.
