Abstract
The ethics and economics binomial has been the subject of great interest since the time of classical Greek thought. This same approach, with a particular interest in man's relationship with material goods and the pursuit of the noble goal of public happiness, was taken up again, from the Middle Ages until the rise of mercantilist thought in the 16th and 17th centuries, thanks to the rediscovery of the thought of the great philosophers of Ancient Greece, in particular Aristotelian thought, in an attempt to make it compatible with Christianity, first thanks to the work of the Church Fathers of Greek origin and then thanks to the translation work of the Arab scholars in Spain and Sicily, the Amanuensis monks and the intellectual work of the Scholastics. In the medieval period, the early Church Fathers had the great merit of reinterpreting Aristotle's thought, making it compatible with Christianity; as in Aristotle, their arguments always start from the causes underlying man's behaviour in general, and then specifically address from a religious angle the ethical use of wealth to achieve the common good...
