Abstract
Lake deposits were important in the Iberian Ranges during two episodes of the Cretaceous time: from Berriasian to Aptians(Lower Cretaceous) and during the Maastrichtian (Uppermost Cretaceous). The first one was related to the fracturation stage of an extensional phase, resulting in the formation of medium size(althoughvery subsident) continental basins (Iberian s,s,,Maestrazgo and Cameros), The second period corresponds with the Late Cretaceous regressive stage, and was associated with acompresional phase. As a result, several small and isolated basins appeared, and were filled with continental deposits.
