Abstract
La enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) es una patología progresiva que conlleva la pérdida de función renal y cuya principal causa de mortalidad es la enfermedad cardiovascular asociada. La coexistencia interrelacionada de ERC y enfermedad cardiaca derivada de ésta se define como síndrome cardiorrenal de tipo 4 (SCR-4). Los modelos animales de SCR-4 existentes hasta la fecha son escasos y ninguno de ellos cumple la totalidad de las características de la patología observadas en los pacientes. La proteína quinasa activada por AMP (AMPK) es una Ser/Thr quinasa heterotrimérica sensible al estrés energético, cuya actividad parece estar reducida en ERC, aunque se desconocen los mecanismos asociados. The interrelated coexistence of CKD and subsequent heart disease is defined as cardiorenal syndrome type 4 (CRS-4).
