Las cuatro etapas en el cine de Zhang Yimou

Abstract

Zhang Yimou es el máximo representante de la Quinta Generación de directores chinos y, desde los inicios de su carrera, ha recibido un importante reconocimiento de la crítica internacional por la calidad, la profundidad y la originalidad de sus obras. A lo largo de su prolífica carrera cinematográfica (veintidós películas entre 1987 y 2020), ha recibido valoraciones a veces polémicas o contradictorias, pero nunca sus estrenos han pasado desapercibidos. El presente estudio, con el título Las cuatro etapas en el cine de Zhang Yimou, responde al deseo de ofrecer una visión a la vez panorámica, integradora y coherente de la trayectoria del director chino a través del análisis sistemático de las dimensiones narrativas, estéticas y simbólicas que configuran sus películas. Con este fin, proponemos una delimitación de su trayectoria en varias etapas, que creemos se estructuran de forma coherente, y a partir de la evolución del estilo del director, desde su primera película (Sorgo rojo,1987), hasta la última en el momento de terminar esta tesis (Un segundo, 2020). Para conseguir dicho objetivo, aplicamos una metodología cualitativa de sus filmes basándonos en una serie de variables que permiten conocer y clasificar el estilo del director en cada una de sus películas, y así llegar a la definición de las cuatro etapas propuestas.El estilo cinematográfico es un concepto complejo que se puede definir como la interacción entre un sistema formal de producción técnica y los parámetros estéticos y narrativos que tienen como resultado la creación de una obra reconocible por terminados rasgos atribuidos al impulso creativo del director...Zhang Yimou is the highest representative of the Fifth Generation of Chinese Directors and since the beginning of his career, he has received significant international critical acclaim for the quality, depth and originality of his works. Throughout his prolific film career (twenty-two films between 1987 and 2020), he has received sometimes controversial or contradictory ratings, but his premieres have never gone unnoticed. The present study, entitled ‘The Four Stages of Cinema by Zhang Yimou’, responds to the desire to offer a vision that is both panoramic, integrative and coherent of the trajectory of the Chinese Director through the systematic analysis of the narrative, aesthetic and symbolic dimensions that make up your style. To this end, we propose a delimitation of his career in various stages that we believe are structured in a coherent way based on the evolution of this cinematographic style, from his first film as a Director (Sorgo rojo, 1987), to the last at the time of finish this thesis (One second, 2020).
