Abstract
Gustavo Pittaluga (Florence 1876 - Havana 1956) drew the fi rst map of the distribution of malaria in Spain in 1903, highlighting the coincidence between the distribution of malaria and that of Anopheles and drawing attention to some high-risk outbreaks. These studies showed the relationship between high infection rates and high exposure to mosquito bites. In this research we will show the importance of this Italian scientist (Spanish nationalized) in the research against malaria in Spain.
