Abstract
Esta tesis aborda el estudio de la plasticidad, su imaginario y la agencia de las materias plásticas desde el punto de vista de la investigación artística y en continuo diálogo con otras disciplinas. Se parte pues de la hipótesis de que, más allá del mundo de los objetos concretos que componen la cultura material, existe un campo inexplorado de propiedades materiales – la plasticidad en nuestro caso – a la espera de ser interrogadas y de constituir un objeto de estudio en sí mismo. De este modo, en primer lugar, esta investigación ofrece una cartografía de la plasticidad que expone y analiza sus manifestaciones en otros campos del saber, al tiempo que amplía su sentido y lo vincula de vuelta al mundo del arte y las ficciones. Como parte de esta estrategia, se recuperan dos dimensiones de la plasticidad, una conceptual – habitualmente ignorada – y otra fenoménica, en las que esta revela su íntima relación con lo fantástico. En segundo lugar y deforma paralela, esta tesis indaga y pone en práctica las posibilidades de hacer, pensar e imaginar no solo sobre, sino especialmente con y a través de la plasticidad. Se proponen, de este modo, cuatro casos de estudio donde la experiencia con distintas materias plásticas nos desliza hacia una cierta lógica de lo imaginario capaz de hermanar ámbitos tan distintos como los mitos, la animación cinematográfica, las imágenes fortuitas, los espectros, el mundo de la síntesis química o las metamorfosis...
This doctoral dissertation addresses plasticity, as well as the imagery and agency of plastic materials from the point of view of artistic research and in continuous dialogue with other disciplines. It is grounded on the hypothesis that, beyond the world of specific objects that makeup material culture, there is an unexplored field of material properties – plasticity in this case –that remains unexplored and waiting to become an object of study in itself. First, this resear choffers a cartography of plasticity that exposes and analyzes its manifestations in other fields of knowledge, while expanding its meaning and relating it – in a loop back – to the world of art and fictions. As part of this strategy, two dimensions of plasticity are recovered, one conceptual –usually ignored – and the other phenomenological, in which it reveals its intimate relationship with the fantastic. Secondly and in parallel, this dissertation investigates and puts into practice the possibilities of doing, thinking and imagining not only about, but especially with and through plasticity. In this way, four case studies are proposed where the experience with different plastic materials reveals a certain logic of the imaginary capable of uniting areas as different as myths, cinematographic animation, images made by chance, spectra, the world of chemical synthesis or metamorphoses...
