Abstract

The stratigraphic distribution of the Toarcian brachiopods of the Iberian Range issummarized. Several episodes of faunal turnover are distinguished permitting the recognition of 7 successive assemblages. A comparison with the sequence stratigraphy proposed for the basin showst hat episodes of faunal change coincide with changes in the trend of the deepening-shallowing sequences. In particular, the most conspicuous changes, and therefore the more useful ones for correlations, take place after the transgressive maxima (uppermost part of the Tenuicostatum Zone, middle part of the Bifrons Zone and upper part of the Insigne Zone).
