Abstract
Global warming, pollution, population explosion and plant diseases, including those causedby fungi, currently threaten global agricultural production. The diseases have a negative impact on production, quality, costs, and the development of product markets. New regulations in the European Union have led to the withdrawal of many synthetic active substances used in plan tprotection products due to their harmful effects on human and animal health and the environment. Therefore, alternatives are being developed, such as biological control using microorganisms, including Penicillium rubens strain 212 (PO212). Previous studies have shown that PO212 is an effective biological control agent (BCA) against several horticultural pathogens, including Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici (FOL) in tomato plants. These plants can develop resistance mechanisms against FOL after prior exposure to PO212. The genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in the mode of action of PO212 as a BCA are still largely unknown...
