Abstract
The TV drama series of Inspector Montalbano (Il commissario Montalbano, 1999-2020, RAI) has pro-vided an excellent scene for the touristic promotion of Sicily. In addition, the series is an example of a case study worthy of analysis. It is the result of a successful literary adaptation in the hands of pu-blic television and far from the rise of digital platfor-ms. The appearance in bookstores and televisions all around the world of the stories of the Inspector Montalbano, created by Andrea Camilleri, has fact that many of the locations used in audiovisual fic-tion became some of the most visited destinations in Sicily. Not only fans from Italy visited these pla-ces, but also Montalbano’s fans from all over the planet attended the locations and surroundings. The series is a media phenomenon with an impor-tant echo in the local economy due to tourism.
