Las camareras de la Virgen de la Asunción de Elche. Relaciones sociales y rituales

Abstract

El presente texto es el resultado de una investigación centrada en el estudio de las camareras de la Virgen de la Asunción de Elche, encargadas del cuidado de la imagen de la patrona ilicitana, desde la perspectiva de sus relaciones sociales y rituales. Partiendo de la observación participante y la elaboración de diferentes entrevistas, se ha indagado sobre las interacciones desarrolladas dentro del propio grupo, así como aquellas que tienen lugar entre éste y otros agentes sociales, desde las jerarquías eclesiásticas hasta otras instituciones o investigadores. Como asunto para el desarrollo de una tesis doctoral, se trata de un objeto de estudio inédito. No se han localizado publicaciones sobre las camareras de esta imagen mariana, pero tampoco de ninguna otra por lo que, creemos, se está ofreciendo con ella un acercamiento a un grupo social escasamente conocido.As a result of a research focused on the “camareras” of Our Lady of the Assumption of Elche, patron saint of this city, we offer now the present text. This group of “camareras”, who is the caretaker of the image of the Virgin above-mencioned, has been studied from the standpoint of their social and ritual relationships in this thesis.Through qualitative techniques, such as participant observation and several interviews we have tried to obtain some knowledge about the social interactions within the group and between this one and some other social agents, from church hierarchy to another different institutions or researchers.We must remark that this is an absolutely unprecedent topic to be chosen as a subject for a PhD thesis. There are not previously published studies about this group of “camareras” nor about any other similar group. That is why, from our point of view, we are currently offering a scientific approach to a barely known social group.
