Abstract
This paper investigates in detail the evolution of the representation of the rural environment in advertisements over the last decades. Through the analysis of advertisements of several Spanish brands we identify patterns, codes and stereotypes used traditionally, as well as those that have emerged recently. The constant transformation of rural society implies a necessary continuous change in the way it is described and represented. To find out if it is actually being carried out by advertisers, we identified possible new codes that have recently emerged to describe today's rural world and its challenges.
