El libro ilustrado en España (1868-1936): la ilustración del Quijote y la novela realista española desde la perspectiva de la teoría cognitiva y la multimodalidad

Abstract

En este trabajo de investigación se plantea un doble objetivo: por un lado, se pretende obtener una reflexión teórica en torno a las relaciones entre la literatura y el arte iconográfico desde las perspectivas contemporáneas de la teoría cognitiva y la multimodalidad y, por otro, un estudio comparativo de la novela ilustrada realista y las ediciones ilustradas del Quijote, durante los años comprendidos entre 1868 y 1936, en España, que nos permiten profundizar acerca de la historia sociocultural de la novela ilustrada, en este periodo, a partir de los fundamentos cognitivos y multimodales que componen el marco teórico y metodológico. Para ello, se presenta en primer lugar las premisas teóricas que constituyen el tema de investigación mediante un sucinto recorrido histórico sobre la reflexión teórica en torno a las relaciones entre la literatura y el arte hasta llegar a la actualidad, para proceder a presentar en qué consiste el denominado «giro cognitivo» y la investigación contemporánea de la multimodalidad. A continuación, se sitúa históricamente el objeto de estudio, las ediciones ilustradas del Quijote y las novelas ilustradas de los escritores españoles del realismo publicadas en España entre 1868 y 1936, se explicita la definición de «libro ilustrado» desde una perspectiva teórica y se muestran las preguntas que se tratarán de responder...The aim of this research is twofold: on the one hand, a theoretical reflection on the relationship between literature and iconographic art from the contemporary perspectives of cognitive theory and multimodality and, on the other, a comparative study of the illustrated realist novel and the illustrated editions of Don Quixote, during the years 1868 and 1936 in Spain, which allow us to study the socio-cultural history of the illustrated novel in this period in depth, based on the cognitive and multimodal foundations that make up the theoretical and methodological framework.In order to do so, we must first present the theoretical premises that constitute the research topic by means of a brief historical overview of the theoretical reflection on the relations between literature and art up to the present day, in order to proceed to present what the so-called ‘cognitive turn’ and contemporary research into multimodality consist of. Next, the object of study, the illustrated editions of Don Quixote and the illustrated novels of Spanish realist writers published in Spain between 1868 and 1936, is historically situated, the definition of ‘illustrated book’ is explained from a theoretical perspective and the questions to be answered are presented...
