Propuesta de Conservación y Restauración de un Álbum Fotográfico del siglo XIX

Abstract

El presente trabajo recoge la investigación y propuesta de intervención realizadas sobre un álbum fotográfico del siglo XIX que guarda retratos de la nobleza canaria. Dado que se partía de muy poca información, se incluyen todos los hallazgos realizados que permiten conocer la colección a la que pertenece este bien, así como las técnicas empleadas para elaborar cada uno de los elementos que componen el álbum fotográfico.

Se detallan los estudios y análisis científicos a llevar a cabo con el objetivo de conocer la composición de los materiales y poder definir una propuesta de restauración acorde. Esta tiene como criterio principal, respetar el paso del tiempo en la obra y no realizar actuaciones muy agresivas como puede ser el blanqueamiento del soporte celulósico. Únicamente se busca la estabilidad estructural del bien para que pueda volver a ser consultado.

Por último, se reúnen una serie de recomendaciones de conservación preventiva en las que se plantea el binomio funcionalidad-conservación, siendo la primera de ellas esencial ya que el bien pertenece a una colección privada. A su vez, dichas recomendaciones se proporcionan para frenar o evitar los deterioros y, por tanto, prolongar la vida del bien.

The present work includes the research and proposal of intervention carried out on a 19th century photographic album that keeps portraits of the Canarian nobility. Since very little information was available, all the findings made are included, which allow us to know the collection to which this property belongs, as well as the techniques used to elaborate each of the elements that make up the photographic album.

Likewise, the studies and scientific analyses to be undertaken are detailed in order to find out the composition of the materials and to be able to define a suitable restoration proposal. The main criteria is to respect the course of time in the work and not to carry out very aggressive actions such as whitening the cellulose support. The only thing that is searched for is the structural stability of the property so that it can be consulted again.

Finally, a series of recommendations for preventive conservation are gathered together in which the binomial functionality-conservation is considered, the first of which is essential since the property belongs to a private collection. In addition, these recommendations are provided to slow down or avoid deterioration and, therefore, to prolong the life of the piece.
