Abstract
This work aims to address a crucial and historical phenomenon in the feminist struggle, the vindication of sexual and reproductive rights, in particular the right of women to decide about their bodies, particularly the free choice around abortion. Framed in a context of absolute restraint and criminalization, this text carries out an analysis and description of how various feminist and lesbofeminists1 collectives2 in Chile articulate themselves around an Information-Delivery Network for a Free, Safe and Self-sufficient Abortion (FEIALSA Network from its initials in Spanish language). On the basis of a theoretic development that draws on the feminist genealogy, and making use of the ethnographic method, the text approaches the experience of feminist women that as a group of self-awareness develop through this articulation, a political strategy with the intention of working from activism based on two lines: on the one hand, they accompany women who abort by providing them with proven and reliable information that facilitates their access to abortion, and on the other hand, by carrying out various public-impact actions with the aim of contributing to the social decriminalization of abortion in the country of Chile. The work therefore has an anthropological methodology basis with the use of ethnography, including a field work that takes in techniques such as the participating observation. It took place during a year in Chile where the author had the experience as an abortion activist3. It also includes four interviews that collect very specific information on human rights-defense activism, to both female feminist activists and a woman who had been accompanied during her abortion process.
