Abstract
The aim of this dissertation is to study the metaphor of the world as an organism of the cultural paradigm of the Moderne by analyzing the motif of martyrdom in the novel Der Zauberlehrling oder die Teufelsjäger and the motif of the mandrake in Alraune, eine Geschichte eines lebenden Wesens, the first two novels of the Frank Braun Trilogy by the German writer Hanns Heinz Ewers (1871-1943). The theoretical basis of this research is based on the metaphorological proposal of the German philosopher Hans Blumenberg (1920-1996), who defends the legitimacy of metaphors as the instrument that human beings use to make the world meaningful and thus dominate reality by liberating themselves from its absolutism. Through metaphors one replaces a world which is incomprehensible, threatening and incomprehensible with a representation of it that is more familiar and habitable. In this way, the human being, who was invisible in a world completely indifferent to his existence, abandons his precarious and uncertain position and makes himself visible in history...
