Onore, duello e duellanti in Spagna, 1870-1920

Abstract

La sussistenza del duello per tutto l’Ottocento e i primi decenni del Novecento fu giustificata all’epoca attraverso una rilettura del concetto di onore, ora identificato con la reputazione delle élite maschili. Il duello divenne l’esternazione della capacità dell’individuo di difendere la propria immagine pubblica. In Spagna, questo processo fu particolarmente evidente nei settori della politica, del giornalismo e dell’esercito. The subsistence of the duel throughout the 19th and early decades of the 20th century was justified at the time through a reinterpretation of the concept of honour, now identified with the reputation of the male elite. The duel became the externalization of the individual’s capacity to defend his public image. In Spain, this process was particularly evident in the areas of politics, journalism and the army.
