Abstract
Polysemy is a poorly studied phenomenon apparently because of its difficulty. This difficulty is precisely the cause of the problem that poses polysemy in the acquisition and lexical access in the teaching of a second or foreign language. In this project, a global theoretical view is presented along with an experimental attempt to prove that there is a poor knowledge of polysemy in Spanish as a foreign language students with advanced level and that this fact could probably be due to the textbooks or to the poor polysemic register the Spanish as a foreign language teachers own. For this purpose, the complexity of polysemy is described and, through some questionnaires completed by a group of Spanish as a foreign language students and a group of Spanish as a foreign language teachers, a polysemic knowledge error analysis is presented
