Abstract
En la presente tesis, se analizan comparativamente dos zonas de frontera, Chiloé y California, ubicadas, en el Sur y en el Norte de América, ambas en la costa Oeste a la rivera del Océano Pacífico. Los puntos que han sido el foco de esta investigación, son parte del proceso de colonización de la corona española entre los siglos XVIII-XIX. Uno de ellos, es la influencia bilateral cultural que nace a través de la evangelización franciscana y el conocimiento del nativo de cada zona. Los misioneros utilizaron el método de evangelización como proceso de civilización, imponiendo nuevas tradiciones a los pueblos nativos y construyendo iglesias y misiones para los asentamientos. Los espacios de reducción misional, representan el núcleo del intercambio bilateral que se ha analizado, el cual se materializa a través de las construcciones arquitectónicas. Este es el legado espacial e identitario que se investiga en esta tesis, dando énfasis al conocimiento constructivo de los misioneros franciscanos, adaptados al entorno geográfico que dominaba el autóctono. Ambos factores son la base para explicar la puesta en valor y relevancia patrimonial que tienen misiones e iglesia en la historia local para la sociedad contemporánea en Chiloé y California...
In the present thesis, two frontier zones, Chiloé and California, located in the South and North of America, both on the West coast of the Pacific Ocean, are comparatively analyzed.The points that have been the focus of this research are part of the colonization process of the Spanish crown between the 18th and 19th centuries. One of them is the bilateral cultural influence that was born through the Franciscan evangelization and the knowledge of the natives of each zone. The missionaries used the evangelization method as a civilization process, imposing new traditions on the native peoples and building churches and missions for the settlements. The spaces of missionary reduction represent the core of the bilateral exchange that has been analyzed, which is materialized through architectural constructions. This is the spatial and identity legacy that is investigated in this thesis, giving emphasis to the constructive knowledge of the Franciscan missionaries, adapted to the geographical environment that dominated the autochthonous. Both factors are the basis to explain the value and patrimonial relevance that missions and church have in the local history for the contemporary society in Chiloé and California...
