Abstract

Bateig Stone is a Middle-Late Miocene allochemical calcareous rocks of the Prebetic Zone. It is an historical building rock named Novelda Stone and an ornamental stone to day. The phyllosilicates of five varieties of Piedra Bateig and two similar stones (Almorquí and Portazgo) have been studied. These phyllosilicates are: lllites, showing diverse evolution grade, glauconite, smectites, interstratified clay minerals and palygorskite.
