Abstract
The general objective of this doctoral thesis was to establish the prevalence of xerostomia, hyposalivation, and oral lesions in a group of patients with DM and to determine whether these alterations have an impact on OHRQoL. The specific objectives were to: 1) Determine whether there is an association between unstimulated salivary flow rate (USFR) and glycemic control; 2) Identify the oral lesions thar appear in the patient with DM; and 3) determine whether xerostomia, hyposalivation, and oral lesions in patients with DM are associated with other local and systemic risk factors such as age, sex, drug, intake, presence of diseases, and tobacco and/or alcohol consumption.
