Abstract
The granting of titles during the Spanish Restoration awakenedthe interest of social historians in the Sixties. Soon, however, it becamea closed narrative, pointed out as a further demonstration of the limitsof the modernization of Spain. Nevertheless, sometimes conflictivestrategies of the King, contenders and the Grandees turned the ennoblementprocess during the reign of Alfonso XIII in a laboratory of socialdistinction, occasionally contradictory and quite European. Surely, the complexity that demonstrates a new insight calls for more attentionto the Spanish nobility in this period.
