Abstract
Music and music radio have been frequently disregarded by historical research into radio media and its modernization process during the post-civil war period in Spain. Nevertheless, during the 1960s radio had a big impact not only on music itself but also on Spanish society as a whole. Being asked about the influence of radio at that time, musicians and radio broadcasters from the 1960s do not hesitate to consider it to have been a key aspect in music paradigm shift in Spain. Moving from traditional Spanish music to new Anglo-Saxon influences was a process that, despite its delay compared with the USA and other European countries, took place quickly and intensely in the early years of the 1960s. Our main hypothesis is that radio, and music radio in particular, was a key factor in that music paradigm shift, which in turn triggered a social paradigm shift. The present work aims to confirm or reject the above-mentioned hypothesis. With that on mind, we will pay attention to some secondary purposes. First of all, we provide a review of the evolution of music radio so we can explain the current situation of music broadcasting, being it possible to draw a parallel with 1960s’ music radio. Secondly, we describe a series of periods or stages in music radio. On the third place, we will define the most frequent concepts around music programs categories and music genres that are relevant to our research...
