Abstract
This paper is concerned with several kinds of restrictions and exemptions to the general military obligations of the population of the Iberian Christian kingdoms in the Middle Ages. Once established the general framework of the military obligations to which the people was generally subject to, according to the personal and social condition of each one, we can get a better view and understanding of the various kinds of exemptions and restrictions to those general military obligations, as stated in the fueros, population charters and other related medieval sources. Thus, the scope of both general and privileged restrictions to the general rule is examined here by means of a selection of interesting examples.
