Abstract
The last decade has been a true revolution in the characterization of the microbial communities that colonize our organism, exploring their possible involvement in numerous pathologies and designing strategies for their modulation. Despite the huge number of studies published on human microbiota, the methodological heterogeneity, the challenge of analyzing complex ecosystems and the lack of agreement on the definition of a normal microbiota have made it difficult to reach solid conclusions. The main objective of this PhD Thesis is to study the microbiota in different physiological and pathological processes from a compositional and functional point of view, using different omics technologies and incorporating analytical techniques based on machine-learning. In addition, the last chapter presents a method for optimizing microbiota modulation using an approach based on the study of donor-recipient immunological compatibility...
