Abstract
This contribution maintains that, in the face of the adversities suffered by Europe in recent years, it has been able to respond with a lesson of unity (Brexit), a lesson of solidarity (pandemic and vaccines) and global leadership (in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine). . He criticizes that the European Union “has lived in a parallel world, thinking that it only had friends and that everything was solved without military force.” The aggression against Ukraine has awakened it to conflicts (China, Russia, the US with a Trump). European integration was motivated by the idea of not returning to the past of wars between us, because our enemy was ourselves. Now the risk comes from other Europeans. Europe is faced with the challenge of “building a common defense in the short term and preparing peace for the continent with everyone.”
