Abstract
The present work focused on analyzing the effectiveness of stochastic compositional techniques in the cinematic context by creating a musical composition for a fragment of the film Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan and the soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer. The obtained results indicate that stochastic compositional techniques can play a significant role in creating unique cinematic atmospheres and manipulating the viewer’s emotions. It was found that introducing random elements in the music can generate surprise, tension, and immersion in the cinematic narrative. Although stochastic music is based on the introduction of random elements, it was discovered that applying a certain degree of order or structure to these elements had a positive impact on the narrative and the viewer’s experience. By ordering the random elements, greater coherence and fluidity in the music were achieved, allowing for better integration with the visuals and the film’s storyline.
