Abstract
In this article, the key concepts to understand the modern conception of time in the critical theory of capitalism are developed, mainly following the Moishe Postone’s reading of Marx. According to this interpretation, the commodification of time imposes social life a tautological dynamic, not teleological, which historically has transformed the function of work, which is not the activity that creates material wealth but a "working for work". It is argued that the commodification of time is a key factor in the emergence and development of capitalist social relations, and therefore a central key to critically think its overcoming.
