Abstract

OBJETIVO: Los objetivos de esta serie de trabajos fueron (1) revisar la evidencia más reciente publicada tras el Workshop EFP/AAP de 2012 "Periodontitis y enfermedades sistémicas" sobre la asociación entre periodontitis y enfermedades cardiovasculares (Estudio·1), (2) explorar la asociación entre periodontitis y riesgo de ECV estimado con SCORE (mortalidad a 10 años por ECV) en una muestra representativa de la población española trabajadora (Estudio#2), e (3) investigar el efecto de la terapia periodontal no quirúrgica en pacientes con periodontitis y ECV establecida sobre variables subrogadas de ECV y marcadores serológicos de inflamación sistémica y activación endotelial (Estudio#3).OBJECTIVE: The objectives of the present work series were (1) to review the most recent evidence, published after the 2012 EFP/AAP Workshop "Periodontitis and systemic diseases" on the association between periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases (Study#1), (2) to explore the association between periodontitis and CVD risk calculated with SCORE (10 years risk of fatal CVD) in a representative sample of Spanish workers (Study#2), and (3) to investigate the effect of steps 1 and 2 of periodontal therapy in patients with periodontitis and established CVD upon surrogate measures of CVD and serum biomarkers of systemic inflammation and endothelial activation (Study #3)
