La percepción de la temperatura es uno de los mecanismos básicos de los seres vivos. En el caso del ser humano, se ha observado que las variaciones de temperatura activan un número amplio de conductas y acciones muy complejas más allá de lo puramente fisiológico. Estos comportamientos implican la existencia de una conceptualización de los procesos físicos de calor y temperatura. Así, las explicaciones (concepciones alternativas), que parten de la experiencia diaria, permiten una primera aproximación a la comprensión de los fenómenos naturales y nos sirven para establecer predicciones, pero no son científicamente correctas.
