Análisis centro-periferia en la UE-20 (1995-2014)

Abstract

A pesar de que uno de los objetivos formales de la Unión Europea (UE) es la convergencia económica de sus Estados miembro, las diferencias económicas y sociales no remiten. En la última década, incluso se han hecho aún más patentes, lo que ha generado la proliferación del uso del término “periferia europea”. La ambigüedad asociada a dicho término y la desatención generalizada de los planteamientos del Estructuralismo Latinoamericano y la Teoría de la Dependencia, que fueron los pioneros del análisis centro-periferia, motivaron el interés por su utilización en el análisis de la realidad europea actual. En este sentido,tratamos de identificar los elementos, de inspiración estructuralista y dependentista, más relevantes del análisis centro-periferia, así como valorar su vigencia en la actualidad. Precisamente, en esa búsqueda por valorar su vigencia tratamos también de conectar dichos elementos principales con debates y propuestas con una mayor incidencia en la actualidad...

One of the main targets of the European Union (EU) is the achievement of the economic convergence among the Member States. However, the economic and social differences are not diminishing. Over the last decade, they have been even more obvious and the use of the expression “European periphery” has increased significantly. The ambiguity around this term and the widespread neglect of the Latin American Structuralist School and the Dependency Theory, pioneers of centre-periphery analysis, has led to their use in the current European context. In this sense, we try to identify the most important elements of centre-periphery analysis and to evaluate their full force.
