Abstract
The various scriptural cycles are a reflection of the tastes and needs of the society that creates and uses them. In the late 12th century and particularly with the irruption of the 13th, new publicity texts appeared in the province of Burgos – a modern scriptural system characterised by the forms of uncial origin, closed and tending to artifice. In this third paper on publicity writing in the province of Burgos we tackle that process of change from Caroline writing and try to circumscribe those changes to certain workshops and centres. We also consider how this new cycle brought about a new way of understanding inscriptions from a viewpoint both formal and textual. We as well analyse the proliferation of epigraphs and their various dissemination in the Burgos geography in relation with Romanesque epigraphy.
