Abstract
El ensayo audiovisual –también llamado ensayo fílmico, cinematográfico o videográfico– implica el ejercicio de una reflexión subjetiva mediante imágenes y sonidos, situada entre el género documental, el cine experimental, el vídeo de creación y el gran campo de la no ficción. El estudio de los orígenes, prácticas, mecanismos y posibles modelos del ensayo en este campo entraña una revisión cada vez más necesaria del audiovisual en su papel de medio de conocimiento y transmisión de la experiencia individual en la construcción y expresión del pensamiento y de la representación histórica. A partir del estudio del ensayo fílmico –en su concepto, trayectoria histórica, genealogía y principios heredados de su homólogo literario– es posible identificar dos hechos fundamentales que trascienden las funciones prácticas e ideológicas de la comunicación audiovisual: la búsqueda de la manifestación del pensamiento subjetivo en las herramientas y procedimientos propios del medio (cine o vídeo) y la repercusión que ello supone para la transformación de la conciencia individual y, por extensión, sociopolítica...
An audiovisual essay –also known as a film, cinematographic o video essay– implies a subjective consideration by means of images and sounds, placed between different genres such as the documentary, the creation video, and the vast area of non-fiction. The study of the origins, practices, mechanisms and possible essay models within this field entails a necessary review of the audiovisual in its role as a media for transmitting knowledge as well as individual experiences that build thought expression and historical representation. From the study of the film essay –in its concept, historical background, genealogy and principles inherited from its literary counterpart– it is possible to identify two fundamental facts that transcend the practical and ideological functions of audiovisual communication: the search for manifestation of subjective thought, in the actual tools and procedures of the media (cinema and/or video), and the impact that this has towards the transformation of individual and, by extension, the social and political consciousness...
