Abstract
The present work deals with the conservation of the private collection and personal archive of the Spanish painter Rosendo Álvarez Cortés, an outstanding artist on the Spanish scene in the 1990s and early 21st century. His work has been part of numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, and his work can be found in various Spanish institutions, as well as in private collections throughout Europe. This research examines the challenges that arise in the preservation of private collections and personal archives located in artists' studios or at their private homes. It examines the importance of detailed documentation of material and immaterial aspects, as well as the development of dissemination plans adapted to the needs of each collection. The main objective of this study is to contribute to the preservation of Rosendo Álvarez's extensive legacy stored in the family residence and the artist's studio after his death, which includes more than 650 works of art in different media, sketchbooks and notebooks, as well as an extensive collection of documents and audiovisual material. For this purpose, an exhaustive documentation of all the movable and immovable assets that make up the legacy is carried out. Subsequently, an evaluation of their state of conservation and an analysis of the significance of this ensemble is carried out in order to develop a preventive conservation proposal adapted to the needs of the works and the environment in which they are located. In addition, it has been considered essential to promote the visibility and appreciation of Rosendo Álvarez's works through a dissemination proposal. The use of immersive digital media and the creation of interactive experiences in the metaverse are explored as suitable tools to disseminate a legacy that, due to its characteristics, is difficult to access at the present time.
