Abstract
Doctor Louis Thomas Jérôme Auzoux (1797-1880) designed human anatomy, comparative anatomy (zoological), vegetable and veterinary medicine models with a papier-mâché paste of his own invention, with the particulary of being clastic, detachable models. Auzoux did not limit himself to the production and sale of models, but also published a significant work that included veterinary lessons on how to improve horse breeding, prevent injuries and diseases and determine age. He recommended the models of his production for this purpose. This paper aims to highlight the veterinary knowledge behind the design of his models and the intense involvement with veterinary medicine. If his works were referents in the veterinary world, the analysis that we present reveals that his knowledge is well founded and in certain sections was profound, as shown by the fact that his veterinary works are cited as reference works. This, together with the great worldwide success he achieved with the dissemination of his models since the first half of the 19th century, confirms his role as a great popularizer of veterinary science of the time.
