Abstract
This paper argues that transhumanism is framed within the capitalist logic, which conceives of people as commodities whose value depends solely on their utility, a clear form of dehumanisation. For this reason, transhumanism does not accept that limitations are an essential part of the human condition and seeks to eradicate them through technology. This leads to serious problems that arise when technological and scientific advances are subordinated to the interests of capitalism. The paper also explores the similarities and differences between transhumanism and education. On the one hand, it is shown that, although transhumanism may contribute to the development of personal capacities, education is still necessary to direct this development towards the end of human life. Therefore, transhumanism cannot replace education. On the other hand, it is argued that education is a more appropriate means than transhumanism to foster the enhancement of capabilities. Finally, the importance of education fulfilling its true purpose - human growth - is emphasised.
