Abstract

La base militar de Gibraltar, que ha sido tradicionalmente utilizada por el Reino Unido, creció en importancia durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y posteriormente durante la Guerra Fría. A partir del hundimiento de la Unión Soviética se reorganizaron sus funciones militares. La base militar sigue siendo importante. Es un activo ante circunstancias geopolíticas cambiantes que, como enseña la historia, no siempre son predecibles. La realidad fría no permite otro análisis. Desde esta perspectiva, el artículo muestra que la política española para la recuperación de la soberanía de Gibraltar ha sido profundamente inconsistenteThe importance of Gibraltar military base, which was utilized by the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, increased during the Second World War and during the Cold War. Later on, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, its military role and objectives were redefined. The military base is still an important asset. Given the unpredictability of many geopolitical changes, as history shows, this importance can not be forgotten. On this perspective, the article shows the profound inconsistencies in the Spanish policies maintained and the different approaches and negotiations for the recuperation of the Gibraltar sovereignty.
