Abstract
The risk of recidivism or the repetition of violent behaviour continues to be of great academic and scientific interest today. In particular, establishing the variables that favour recidivism may imply the development of improvements in the measures established for the management of this risk and the treatment of the prison or criminal population (Olver et al., 2022). To this end, it is necessary to consider that the factors that can influence violent behaviour are heterogeneous and often act together (Hare, 2000).Among these factors is the presence or suffering from a mental disorder which, although assuming an immediate and causal relationship between this and the commission of a criminal act is a mistake (Echeburúa, 2018), it is considered important to study the relationship between the risk of recidivism and the presence of psychopathology with the aim of substantially improving risk assessment and management (Honegger and Honegger, 2019; Parisi et al., 2022). In the same way, this improvement is linked to a greater understanding of aggressive behavior, mainly focused on its motivational bases (Andreu & Peña, 2019), that is, the classification of aggression into instrumental and expressive can also come to favor the prediction of aggressive behavior which, likewise, has been considered a key purpose in the field of international research (Matlasz et al., 2020; Swogger et al., 2015)...
