Abstract

En el presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster se estudia la alternancia de código (code-switching) a partir de la traducción de la obra In Cuba I was a German shepherd, escrita por Ana Menéndez, en la que se alterna el inglés con términos y expresiones en la variedad cubana de español a lo largo del texto y en las intervenciones de algunos personajes. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es lograr una aproximación práctica a este fenómeno lingüístico mediante la propuesta de traducción de la obra y analizar así el cambio de código presente en la obra original y las soluciones traductológicas empleadas para dotar al texto meta de este fenómeno. Se pretende así extraer conclusiones sobre la efectividad de las estrategias de traducción que permiten conseguir la alternancia de código y ser consciente de la dificultad que supone conseguir esta característica en el texto meta.The present thesis proposes a translation into Spanish of the short story in English In Cuba I was a German shepherd, by Ana Menéndez, which is characterized by the intercalation of English and the Cuban variety of Spanish throughout the story. Hence, there is a practical approximation to code-switching through its translation, whose results will then allow a more accurate analysis of this phenomenon and to draw conclusions regarding the strategies of translation applied. The main motivation after this Master’s dissertation is to find out which strategies of translation fulfil better the attempt of translating this mixing-language phenomenon and, in this sense, create a final text that provokes the same reaction in the reader the source text does.
