Abstract
ABSTRACT: This chapter presents the results of the CulturApS project, which aims to develop intercultural skills through the courses Pragmatics for Intercultural Communication and Sociolinguistics at the Complutense University of Madrid. By studying the pragmatic, sociolinguistic, and sociocultural foundations of human communication, students learn to manage linguistic diversity and communication in multicultural contexts. The project is structured around the Service-Learning (SL) methodology to foster the development of intercultural competencies and produce a positive impact on society, facilitating the integration of migrants in the healthcare sector. The collaboration between the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and the NGO Salud Entre Culturas (SEC) has allowed for an in-depth exploration of the course's theoretical content through a practical approach at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital. This study examines the effectiveness of the Service-Learning (SL) methodology in the development of intercultural competencies and its impact on improving communication and healthcare for the migrant population. The results highlight the strengthening of pragmatic and sociolinguistic skills among students, as well as their significant contribution to the integration of migrants in the healthcare sector. A detailed analysis of the project's implementation, objectives, methodology, results, and evaluation is presented, emphasizing its relevance in building a more inclusive and equitable society.
