Abstract
The vast biological diversity within Ecuador makes it a megadiverse country, where life thrives in a complex geographical setting of landscapes, ecosystems, and species that sustain various cultures and ethnicities. Situated in the tropical equatorial zone, Ecuador is divided into four distinct geographical regions, organized in a horizontal-vertical structure characterized by high biodiversity and unique features, resulting in a wide variety of environments, soils, and climates.A significant portion of this natural wealth is protected through environmental conservation mechanisms known as protected areas, whose mission is to preserve biodiversity. However, these areas also feature natural and scenic attractions, which are essential to tourism activities. In this context, tourism development should not focus solely on the economic and social viability required to maintain protected areas but must also prioritize the protection of the area's biodiversity. This ensures the conservation of natural heritage for future generations, allowing them to experience and enjoy the natural richness with minimal ecosystem disruption and in optimal conditions...
