Abstract
The glam scene has been seen as a sociocultural era where sexual freedom, hedonism and women's liberation began to be visible. But glam is remembered by men performing women and performing homoerotic scenes on stage. Bowie and glam rock, as did the previous subcultures, appropriated and redefined cultural factors to project what scandalized the dominant culture, but, at the same time, perpetuated the invisibility that the same categorical culture oppressed. Women have been and still been a fundamental part in the formation of scenes and, as we will see in this essay, in glam rock they played an important role in their development.
