Abstract
A lo largo de las siguientes páginas se aborda la compleja tarea de estudiar los inicios de un proceso inconcluso como es la islamización de la parte occidental del África subsahariana, denominada en árabe Bilād as-Sudān. Desde un punto de vista estrictamente temporal los límites de este estudio lo constituyen los siglos XI-XVI. En lo que respecta a lo espacial, el área estudiada se encuentra delimitada por el océano Atlántico y el lago Chad.Además, se reflexionará en torno a la incidencia de este proceso en las principales entidades políticas de la época estudiada, como fueron los imperios de los almorávides, Mālī, Songhay, los reinos hausa y el Sultanato de Kānem-Bornu. A partir de una metodología multidisciplinar se pondrá en valor como el avance del islam en la región no fue fruto de un único factor, sino de la colaboración de varios de ellos, tal y como han demostrado los estudios arqueológicos, climatológicos, económicos, religiosos…
Along the next pages it is tackled the task of looking at an unfinished process, such as the islamisation of the western part of Sub-Saharan Africa, which is known in arabic as Bilād as-Sudān. From a strictly temporal point of view, The limits of this research are the XIth-XVIth centuries. On the other hand, in a spacial sense, the studied area is limited by the Atlantic ocean and the Lake Chad.Additionally, it will reflect on the impact of this process on the main political entities of the studied age, such the Almoravids, Mālī and Songhay empires as well as the hausa kingdoms and the Sultanate of Kānem-Bornu. Thanks to a multidisciplinary methology, it will be highlighted how the extension of Islam in the area didnʼt was due to only oneivfactor but the contribution of a variety of them, as it has been demostrated by archaeologycal, climatological, economical and religious studies and so on...
