Abstract

Esta tesis doctoral, Divinidades equinas y caballos en las religiones hitita y griega¸ tiene como objetivos principales realizar un análisis pormenorizado de la relación entre estas divinidades y los caballos y a continuación comparar algunos elementos en común con las conclusiones alcanzadas en cada una de las dos religiones. El estudio se realiza a través de la información obtenida de los textos hititas y griegos, por lo que tiene un marcado carácter filológico, pero por su contenido también tiene cabida dentro de las Ciencias de las Religiones. Esta investigación se divide en distintos apartados. El primero se corresponde con una introducción al proceso de elaboración de la tesis, donde se incluyen el estado de la cuestión, los objetivos, la estructura de la tesis y la metodología empleada. El siguiente capítulo está dedicado al caballo. En sus subapartados se aborda la etimología del término en griego e hitita así como su domesticación. También se incluye de manera introductoria la presencia del caballo en la religión desde sus orígenes indoeuropeos, con mención del ámbito arqueológico, los motivos religiosos y la vinculación entre el caballo y la divinidad. Esta presentación es necesaria para conocer la base sobre la que se asientan las divinidades que se analizarán dentro de la religión hitita, la micénica y la griega arcaica y clásica...The main purpose of this doctoral thesis, Equine Divinities and Horses in the Hittite and Greek Religions, is to conduct a detailed analysis of the connection between these divinities and horses, followed by a comparison among some common elements and the findings in each of the two religions. This study is based on the information gathered from Hittite and Greek texts, hence its philological nature, however, its content also has a place within the Religious Sciences.Moreover, the research has been divided into several different sections. The first is an introduction to the creation process, including contemporary theory, the objectives, as well as the structure and methodology of this paper. The next chapter is devoted to the horse, addressing the etymology of the term in both Greek and Hittite languages, together with the domestication of the animal. Furthermore, an introductory overview covering the role of the horse in religion, dating back to its Indo-European origins, with mention of the archaeological context; religious motifs, and the link between the equine and the divinity, are also included. Such introduction serves as a basis for understanding the divinities that will be discussed in the Hittite, Mycenaean, and both, archaic and classical Greek religions...
