Abstract
Se estima que en España hay 300,000 niños y adolescentes en situación de riesgo bajo la atención de los servicios sociales, y más de 50,000 en situación de desamparo, atendidos por el sistema de protección tras haber perdido el cuidado de sus padres. Existen diversos procedimientos para la evaluación de estos casos, entre los cuales se valoran aspectos emocionales, sociales y cognitivos en relación con los niños y sus cuidadores. La salud mental de niños y adolescentes en esta situación es especialmente importante, pues es un hecho plenamente aceptado que los niños y jóvenes que han tenido experiencias aversivas durante su desarrollo, como es el caso de los que han experimentado negligencia o abuso por parte de sus padres, tienen una mayor probabilidad de presentar conductas de riesgo y problemas mentales. In Spain there are 300,000 children and adolescents at risk under the care of social services, and over 50,000 who have already lost their parental care and are under the welfare system attention. There are several procedures for the assessment of these situations, some of which evaluate emotional, social or cognitive components in relation to the child and their caregivers. The mental health of children and adolescents in this situation is especially important since it has been widely assumed that children and adolescents that have lived traumatic events such as negligence or abuses by their parents during their development are at higher risk of engaging in risky behaviors and suffer from mental health problems.
