Abstract
This thesis studies Truman Capote's nonfiction texts with the objective of determining if they can be considered journalism or if the author used a journalistic appearance as a literary strategy. In Cold Blood was published in 1965 and it is considered one of the masterpieces of New Journalism. The author narrates a real event --the murder of all the members of a family-- using narrative techniques typical of literature. The Dogs Bark, published in 1973, and Music for Chameleons, published in 1980, are compilations of non-fiction texts in which the author experiments with narrative techniques again.Truman Capote was a regular contributor to magazines and consider himself a journalist. The investigations carried out so far were based on the premise that Capote introduced literary tools into his journalistic work. This thesis raises the opposite perspective: Capote used journalism as a literary tool. This author dedicated his life to one goal: to improve his writing technique. Every work he wrote, both fiction and nonfiction, was an exercise to try new methods. But he never considered informative purposes nor did he respect the work methodology of journalism...
