Abstract
La utilización de la imagen en la educación ha recibido poca atención a pesar de la doble función que cumplen las imágenes en los manuales escolares, una vertiente dirigida a la adquisición de conocimiento (función instructora) y otra, a la transmisión de actitudes, valores y normas (función transformadora), que es una fuente valiosa de investigación histórica, educativa y comunicativa. Se estudian, mediante el análisis de contenido, las características de los catecismos, la legislación de la época relacionada con la publicación de manuales escolares, la presencia de las imágenes, los tipos, la función didáctica y la transmisión de modelos sociales e ideología. La investigación señala que las imágenes de los catecismos escolares no son simplemente reflejos de una realidad que facilita el aprendizaje de los contenidos que se imparten en las escuelas sino que, además, se convierten en una herramienta eficaz en la transformación de los valores y el pensamiento ideológico y religioso del contexto social en que se producen.
The use of images in education has received little attention despite the dual role of images in school textbooks, one aimed at the acquisition of knowledge (teaching function) and the other at the transmission of attitudes, values and norms (transforming function), that constitute a valuable source of historical, educational and communicative research. We will study, through the analysis of content, the characteristics of the catechisms, the legislation of the time related to the publication of school textbooks, the presence of images, types, the didactic function and the transmission of social models and ideology. The research suggests that the images of school catechisms are not simply reflections of a reality that facilitates the learning of the contents taught in schools, but that they also become an effective tool in the transformation of the values and ideological thinking of the social context in which they are produced.
