Les éléments fictifs ou «irrealia» et leur traduction dans la littérature fantastique : les procédés de formation de mots en anglais, français et espagnol

Abstract

RÉSUMÉ: La présente étude examine les difficultés posées par la traduction des termes faisant référence à des éléments fictifs, les “irrealia”. Dans cette optique, l’étude porte sur le cas des irrealia présents dans “The Hobbit” (Tolkien, 1937) et leur traduction en espagnol et en français. À partir des procédés néologiques observés, des conclusions sont formulées concernant l’adéquation de la traduction des “irrealia”, en tenant compte des stratégies de “domestication” et “exotisation” relevées par Venuti (1995).ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to analyze the difficulties posed by the translation of terms referring to fictional elements (“irrealia”). For this purpose, the study analyzes the “irrealia” present in Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” (1937) and their translation into Spanish and French. On the basis of observations on the word-formation processes, the study draws certain conclusions as to the most appropriate procedure for translating irrealia, bearing in mind Venuti’s strategies of “domestication” and “foreignization”.
