Abstract
Eugenio de Ochoa was not an ordinary traveller. He spent part of his life outside Spain, especially in Paris, and his travels were always motivated by practical reasons. His writings do not conform to the stereotype of the travel book. However, they are full of interesting observations about modernity, urban life, and the way in which national stereotypes are created.
