Abstract

This paper addresses the question how the developing interest of society and technical evolution shape the formulation of novel research disciplines and how scientific results face challenges in gaining a widespread effect on society. Novel research interests often result in emerging new fields, which establish a radically different mindset on a spe- cific phenomenon in question. This is illustrated by drawing on the case of the newly emerging multidisciplinary field of Cultural Linguistics. The paper argues that Cultur- al Linguistics evolved due to a complexity of contextual factors of our age, including the emergence of digital environment, a tendency towards multidisciplinarity, an in- creasing interest in culturally relevant issues, and a demand to make the link between academic research and everyday life more explicit.
